Cothelstone Hill is a great place to visit to experience the outstanding beauty of the Quantock Hills. On a clear day you have wonderful panoramic views; the Brecon Beacons in Wales, Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks, and the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Dorset, the Blackdown and Mendip Hills and the Gower Peninsular.  On a clear night is is also a spectacular site for stargazing.

Wildlife watch

Soak up the sights and sounds of the wildlife. Sit quietly and you might spot red, fallow or roe deer, buzzards, ravens, kestrals, a large array of farmland birds such as meadow pipit and yellow hammer and some wonderful and uncommon butterflies.

 

Circular Walk

Distance: 2.5miles / 4km        Time: 1.5hrs

This beautiful circular walk will take you over the hilloptop and through ancient woodland. Some moderately steep climbs and muddy paths. Strudy footwear advised.

Stargazing

Cothelstone Hill is a great dark skies site and perfect for stargazing on a clear night. Why not come to one of our guided stargazing events in January (see events) to learn the basics and then come up to spot the milky way or cassiopeia for yourself.

Events

From bushcraft days to dawn chorus walks, the Quantock Hills AONB Service runs an annual events programme led by Quantock Hill Rangers. Keep an eye out for any that take your fancy by clicking here

Cothelstone Hill is the perfect place to visit with your school or organisation, if this is something you are planning the AONB have a useful Cothelstone Hill Education Pack to help with the organisation of your visit and provide some interesting historical info about the site
